Huh’s NOT-A-LAMP and NOT-A-BOX are lights that look like
cardboard boxes,
with the silhouettes of
lamps die-cut into them.
A commentary on the IKEA flatpack? You’ve got to love that they’re sold by a
company called Huh.

UGS PLM Software is now Siemens PLM Software
It has now been nearly five months to the day since the acquisition of UGS
PLM Software by Siemens closed.
This month, UGS PLM Software transitioned to the new name of Siemens PLM
Software. UGS PLM Software was used as a bridge to remind people of its
heritage as it moved into the Siemens family. Now, it will have the opportunity
to further leverage the world-class Siemens brand by associating it with the
divisional name.
Tilo Brandis, who has been serving as president, will be leaving UGS PLM
Software. Taking the reins from Brandis as the new president is Dr. Helmuth
Ludwig. Ludwig comes to UGS PLM Software
from Siemens Systems Engineering, a division of A&D, where he has served as
president since 2002.
Also, in Q2 (the first quarter as part of Siemens), the software license
revenue growth was strong, significantly exceeding key competitors – license
growth is the primary measure of growth for a software company. Q2 marked the
sixteenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year revenue growth.

The Big Idea
Ideation . . How do you come up with the next big idea, or just find a concept for your next design?
Mike Hudspeth tells us about ideation recently in Machine Design.
"Hey, what’s the big idea?
All products start with an idea. But it’s rare that a
finished product turns out the same as the initial idea. In fact, designs
typically develop over time.
A good way to do this is through what’s known as ideation.
Similar to brainstorming, ideation begins with
getting a general idea of the design problem and developing different ways to
tackle it. This can be one of the most fun and productive stages in the
development process."
