Simulations are doomed to succeed
"Simulations are doomed to succeed. I like to use
that catchphrase because it sticks with people and reinforces the attitude that
simulations must be verified. Their parameters can be adjusted arbitrarily and
falsely. If you’re not careful, they can predict pretty much whatever you want." so quips Dr. Wayne Book, Husco/Ramirez chair of fluid power and motion
control in Georgia Tech’s school of mechanical engineering, at the recent National Instruments Corp. NI Week
conference. Machine Design has an interesting article exploring this very topic.

Dress changes color with your mood
An “emotion-sensitive dress” has been designed by Philips, the electronics
firm. The dress monitors biophysical
changes associated with different human emotions.
It was developed as part of the SKIN Probe Project which
researches what lifestyles might be like in 2020. "You could programme the material so
that it turned red if you were angry or stressed, or green when you’re calm,”
said Ingrid Bal, Philip’s Design. The
dress was developed as part of the SKIN Probe Project, a research programme
concerned with what lifestyles might be like in 2020. Time magazine named it
the best fashion invention of the year.
